Welcome

Willington is located on the A690 approximately 8 miles from Durham City and the A1(M) in the County of Durham. This once thriving and close knit former coal mining community formed the Greater Willington Town Council in 2007.

Based on the High Street at Willington, the Council currently has eleven members covering the communities of Sunnybrow, Page Bank, Oakenshaw and Willington.  Administrative support is provided by Emma McCann, Deputy Town Clerk.

Councillor Dorothy Hales is the Town Mayor and Chairman of the Council.  Councillor Angela Smith is the Deputy Town Mayor.

Allotments

The Town Council is responsible for Springfield and Park Top sites in Willington and New Row site in Oakenshaw. Due to high demand a waiting list now applies. To register contact the Deputy Town Clerk.

Young People

We are keen to recognise and involve young people views in the running of the Town Council. We can tell you about the Youth activities that are up and running in Willington. If you would like to work with the council at future young people steering group meetings please contact the Office on 01388 417725.
